In Malawi, agricultural activities are the main source of livelihood for as much as 80% of the rural population. In the past, farmers were able to produce enough food to sustain the population. But decreases in population and other factors driving famine has forced over one million of its 17 million people into food insecurity.1
In an effort to impact as many as 9,450 households, we’ve partnered, through Rise Against Hunger, to provide funding to train 70 lead farmers about climate-smart agriculture techniques and enhance farming technologies deployed on over 500 acres of land. In addition, 700 farmers are receiving over 5,000 lbs. of seeds including maize, sesame, rice, and soybeans.
The primary goals being increased crop production, food supply resilience, and financial independence and sustainability. Planned program expansions include additional household nutrition and cooking education to increase dietary diversity as well as the distribution of livestock and establishing seed and grain banks.
Village savings and loan associations are included in the next phase of this program. Join us in making a life-changing donation and we’ll match it with funds from the World Wesleyan Hunger Fund. Please be generous! We have some suggested donations, but feel free to enter a custom amount. FastPrayGive.org will match up to $1,500 in gifts with World Wesleyan Hunger Funds for this Advent and Christmas project.
