For the preacher, the lectionary texts offered for the season of Lent offer a rich load of raw material for reflection and proclamation.
In this year of Mark (Year B), one may adopt or diverge from his concise and rapid (for instance, immediately!) style. One could take a season-long look at how the journey from the wilderness to the crucifixion is marked by signals from those who do not receive the “good news” as good, but rather as a disruption of the Law, custom, and propriety.
Most preachers find the use of all four texts each Sunday to be an overload for preaching. However, they may also prove useful in developing liturgy, prayers, and meditations for other outlets such as e-blasts, websites, or newsletters.
We encourage you to use these as you see fit and know that we are in prayer for you and your congregation this lent.
